The school aims, through its provision for sport, within and beyond the formal curriculum, to:
- develop in all students their intellectual, personal and physical skills, enhancing self-esteem and fostering co-operation, tolerance and independence in learning.
- enable all students to participate in both competitive and co-operative activities and experience a sense of enjoyment, purpose and fulfilment through team and individual involvement.
- foster links with sporting bodies and the local community, encouraging students to regard lifelong involvement in physical and sporting activity as an essential feature of a healthy lifestyle.
The school offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities and has a strong sporting tradition. There are teams in all Years for netball, hockey, athletics, tennis and rounders. Other activities done in combined age group teams are table-tennis, swimming, cricket, cross-country, gymnastics and trampolining.
Clubs are held during the lunch time and include the aforementioned activities together with fitness, dance, aerobics, volleyball, gymnastics, badminton and football. Fixtures are played after school and, occasionally, on Saturday mornings and Sundays.
For many years, the school has won district, county, regional and national titles in rounders, cross-country, hockey, athletics, tennis, netball, gymnastics, swimming and table-tennis. Many Year 10, Year 11 and Sixth Form students coach teams and organise clubs for Year 7 and Year 8 students during the lunch hour.
There are several links with local sporting bodies and every effort is made to encourage students to participate in sport through the local clubs, as well as school. Every student has the opportunity to represent her House in any number of sporting events throughout the year. Our links with the District Primary Schools give our students the opportunity to officiate at several inter-school competitions from Years 7-13.
